Recent Cyberattack: How to Protect Your Business from Similar Threats

A recent cyber attack serves as a reminder: we all need to stay vigilant. While on vacation, I received an email from a trusted source, a friend and fellow Rotarian, with a Dropbox attachment. Thinking it was safe, I opened it—and unknowingly gave a hacker access. They altered my settings and sent fraudulent emails to my contact list, even asking my wife to pay a fake invoice. Thankfully, we caught it in time. My team promptly informed clients to avoid opening any Dropbox attachments from us, and we’ve reported the incident to Dropbox. I’ll also be filing a report with the authorities in the hope of tracking down the perpetrator. This experience underscores the importance of caution with all digital communications. It’s unfortunate, but we must be ever vigilant in protecting ourselves and our contacts. Stay safe, everyone!
